The Poetry Project is the initiative of Susanne Koelbl, a former correspondent of the newspaper Die Spiegel in Afghanistan. During her travels, Susanne noticed the beauty of the Persian language and culture, so when she returned home she organised a workshop for young people who spoke a Persian language, regardless of their cultural background. Ali Ahmad (15), Ghani Ataei (16), Mahdi Hashemi (16), Shahzamir Hataki (16), Kahel Kashmiri (15), Mohamad Mashghdost (18), Yasser Niksada (14) and Samiullah Rasouli (17) all responded to the first call for participants. All of them were at that time young war refugees who had arrived in Germany in 2015. Poetry became a tool against fear and uncertainty for all these young people. Through poetry, they tried to overcome the memories of the war and the loss of relatives.
